New Yorker’s Koch Profile Misses The Point

For those who don't know, much has been made on the left of an article by Jane Mayer from the New Yorker entitled "Covert Operations: The billionaire brothers who are waging a war against Obama."

In the article Ms. Mayer makes a rather feeble attempt at tying the Kochs to the funding of the TEA Party. I don't see why this would be a bad thing necessarily. But she envisions the Koch's as evil industrialists secretly attacking Obama from behind a curtain of hundred dollar bills.

It is a poorly written and shallow piece but it has gotten some traction because so many on the left do not understand why the country has so profoundly turned against the president. There must be someone pulling the strings. There must be a conspiracy against Obama. Why else could so many people dislike the guy. I mean 6 vacations in one year is standard for a president right? Oh and the health care thing. And the inaction in the Gulf oil debacle. Hmmm. It's the Koch's fault.

The thing is the Kochs are the real deal. Do they support their libertarian causes? You bet and with lots of money. But the money they give to libertarian causes is paltry versus what George Soros gives to his pet causes. Soros got a president. The Koch's got the Cato Institute.

Below is a nice response to the hit piece from the New Yorker for your information.
