Clay- I didn't know this comment was out there. I just checked out your site. Interesting. Love the elbowroom idea which seems to be a core theme. Humans are wired to have space. We are predators. Pushed up against one another things get weird. Just like a bunch of cougars forced to live together.

I think you're overestimating, using your figures, 99.9% of Americans, current or past. Yet I hope for the best for America, in order for us, the rest of the world, to finally get a chance at a decent living. But now that the American population is ever more finding out what it feels like to live miserably, hopelessly, and being screwed by those in power, the hard decisions, previously unthinkable, are being pondered more and oft. Will they be timely taken, or could they at some point be too late? If America resembles an empire of old, economically, militarily, politically (intrinsically), and intellectually, it's to Rome. We all know what came next after Rome fell, to all, Romans and other nations. So I, as well, am committed to help rebuild America. I just wish more Americans were too, instead of falling for the political cretinism being spewed by government and opposition. That Beck/Palin rally really makes me doubt the whole "homo sapiens" theory. Apparently most of us don't fall under that category, or as you say, need to grow up.

One problem is the us against them mentality of today! This is one country! All of us need to focus on a more efficient form of government. I personally have nothing against anarchy.. but in truth there must be some laws in place so that the pervs and robbers would have something to answer to.But we are all about , 'left,right, conservative, progressive' ect. Guess my parents had it partially right in the '60s. Dad tore off his tie and mom let her skirts hike up to her butt, left a govt job with a weekly paycheck to live where ever we wanted around the world.

Only, they returned to "reality" and another govt job in the '70s. So I, and my life and those past experiences, have become an Independent thinker who wants no hand outs from the govt. I want no strings to bind me. Today, I dream of "dropping out" once again.

A fine speech, I completely agree that we don't need the FED, however the gold standard would have the unintended consequence of making South Africa and Russia extremely wealthy because of their gold reserves. Eliminate the Fed, move to a consumption tax but leave the gold alone.
